Details of a good initiative by Killavullen Angling Club

September 26, 2024

See details below in Blue Font, of a very good initiative  been run by the Angling Club.

Killavullen Angling Club are pleased to announce the reintroduction of their Fly tying course with the aim of encouraging young people from the Parish to take up trout fishing.

Killavullen Angling Club are the only Angling Club on the Blackwater river that own their own fishing outright and it is hoped that the classes will encourage people to join the club and avail of this fantastic amenity which is right on their doorstep .

The course will run from the 16th October 2024 through to the 11th December 2024 and will take place from 8pm Wednesday evenings in the Killavullen Community Centre.

On the opening night of Wednesday the 16th well known angler and fly tyer, Paul Molloy will be on hand to give a brief introduction to fly tying and what flies to tie for different times of the year. Paul is a member of the Loop Ireland pro Team and has fished all over the world for trout and salmon.

Over the 11 weeks attendees will be taught the basics of fly tying by experts up to a level where they will be able to tie a whole range of different flies themselves at home independently.

Killavullen Angling Club will provide fly tying equipment for use by attendees at the course evenings so as they can learn to tie their own flies under expert guidance , which they can then use when they start fly fishing for trout. There is great satisfaction to be gained when you catch a trout on a fly that you have tied yourself!

The course will also give a brief background on the ecology of the river, to enhance attendees understanding of trout behavior and fly life.

Spaces are limited, so it is important that anyone interested in attending please confirm by txt or WhatsApp to either
