U16 Div 1 F- League Final Abandoned due to a injury
July 16, 2019
The game between Killavullen and Mallow, in the U16 Division 1, league Football final, had to be abandoned last night in Castletownroche as a Mallow player picked up a serious injury in an accidental challenge with his own player, and the extent of his injuries necessitated an ambulance had to be called.
Dan Ryan had opened the scoring for us in the 2nd minute but Mallow hit back with scores in the 5th and 7th minute, and with strong running from their midfield, tacked on further points in the 8th and 10th minutes. Killavullen were not without chances in that period either with Jamie Magner unlucky, close in to their goal, Chris O Callaghan got a point back for us in the 15th minute and a minute later, Jamie Magner got our next score after Evan Magner and Patrick O Grady combined, with the latter being fouled, and Jamie capitalised. We took the lead in the 18th minute when we ran at Mallow, and following a quick exchange of hand passes, we isolated Michael Walsh, close into goals, and he duly slotted home his chance to see Killavullen leading by 1-03 to 0-04.Mallow got the next score in the 23rd minute, but Jamie Magner capitalised on the collision of two Mallow players to race through and score our second goal in the 26th minute. Mallow scored a point in the 30th minute, and just before half time, they reduced the deficit to two points, with another point.
On the resumption, Killavullen were denied a goal chance with a fine save from their keeper, and then, Mallow was awarded a penalty when a high ball into our square was expertly gathered by a Mallow player. Killavullen player’s tried to crowd him out, and prevent his shot away, but the referee deemed that the defenders had too many hands on him, and awarded the penalty. The penalty was converted. After consultation between both teams, the referee was asked to put a halt on the game, as the injured player was prostrate on the ground, though off the field and it was disconcerting for both sets of players, who all know each other , through sharing the same schools, infinitely well to watch on.
We wish the Mallow player a speedy recovery.
