BANTRY PROVE TOO GOOD IN ROUND 2
0-03 to 2-09 11th July 2009 Vs. BANTRY BLUE’S
On a greasy pitch in Coachford last night (11th of July) , Bantry with the prominence of Cork Senior Football stalwart, Graham Canty anchoring their midfield, proved to be far too good for Killavullen in Round 2 of this years Premier Intermediate Football Competition.
Killavullen over the course of the sixty minutes did not score from open play, and relied on 3 points from Billy Norris, from free’s to register their only scores in the 2nd period of the game.
The 1st half was largely forgettable from our point of view. Muiris Browne was doing a good job in marking the influential Canty, but it was his older brother Jeremy, playing at full forward that was the menace in chief. His cuteness allowed him to outmuscle Billy Norris at full back, and he was only contained when Brian O Driscoll, just back from injury had to be deployed in the full back slot.
Not that we did not have chances in the first half, we did, but poor shooting and the wrong shot options wiped-out our odds.
We failed to score in the 1st half, and conceding 1-07, which though a daunting lead, was not insurmountable considering the strength of the wind.
The 2nd period needed a good start, and though we gamely pressed forward, resolute defending from Bantry kept our forwards deadly quite, and our chance went a begging when Alan O Driscoll blazed wide, and cleverly getting inside his man.
In truth Bantry were a better all round outfit, and deserved their win, so Killavullen must now try and preserve their Premier Intermediate status, probably next week end.
