A win after a long lay out
2-16 to 2-06 21st July 2018 Vs. Ballycastle Gaels
Minor B1 Football league Killavullen 2-16 Ballycastle Gaels 2-6
Killavullen minors resumed their minor football league program after a four month break with a 10 point win over Ballycastle Gaels in Castletownroche. The long time without football showed in the first half as we were sloppy and lethargic and gave away two soft goals while butchering a few opportunities of our own. As the half wore on, things improved as points by Michael Fresh, Podge Cronin, Liam Fox, Eoin Burchill, Padraig Looney and Eddie Cotter brought us to within three points at half time 2-5 to 0-8. We started the second half with much more intensity and purpose and our backs put the shackles on the Ballycastle forwards. Four straight points at the start of the half from Michael Fresh, Padraig Looney, Eoin Burchill and Fionn Magner put us ahead, before a fine move involving Ben hunter, Darragh O’Grady and Padraig Looney ended in a rocket to the roof of the net by Colm Looney. After a period of Ballycastle pressure was repelled by our now dominant backline, we were awarded a close in free. Quick thinking resulted in a short pass to the alert Podge Cronin to make no mistake to goal from close range. That put us 7 points clear and we pushed on from there to the end with points by Michael Fresh, Eoin Burchill, Colm Looney and Eddie Cotter to complete a 2-16 to 2-6 victory. Lots to work on but ultimately a satisfying victory after such a long layoff from football.
