Bits in Brief
- Brian O'Driscoll, present day intermediate footballer, won All- Ireland under 21 and Intermediate Hurling Medals in 1997 with Cork
- James O'Mahony and Michael Whelan won Junior All Ireland Inter firm medals with Mica- Micanite from Mallow, also in 1997. Both of these players were an integral part of the successful junior football team of 2000
- Killavullen have only won two county titles in their long history, winning the county minor B hurling title in 1994 and the county junior football title in 2000
- Billy Griffin, who resided in the parish, won an All Ireland Senior Hurling medal with Cork in 1952, at left half forward. Billy played his club hurling with Shanballymore at that time. That Cork team was captained by Paddy Barry, from Sarfield's, and also contained the imperial Christy Ring.
- Killavullen are in rare company of teams that managed to win 3 in a row North Cork Junior Football titles since the competition was formally organised in 1926, the other's been Mitchelstown and Clyda Rovers, who won four in a row titles, between 1955 - 1958 and 1986 to 1989 respectively.
Killavullen achieved this feat between 1998 and 2000, and won the county junior title in 2000, and thus promotion to the Intermediate ranks.
- Cork successful All Ireland winning minor ladies football team of 2007 contains three girls that played under age football with Killavullen. All three played with the Juvenile Club to Under-16 (before the age limit for girls changed to Under-14). The girls in question were;
- Catherine Coakley
- Patrica Murphy
- Jenny Luddy
- Marie Barrett, who played under age football with Killavullen, and subsequently Clyda Rovers Ladies teams, went on to represent Ireland in Ladies International Rugby, and is still a current international in 2007
- When Avondhu last won the Cork County Senior hurling Final in 1996, two Killavullen players received county medals, namely Brian O Driscoll and Pat O Donovan.
Avondhu also won the title in 1966 and 1952.
- Michael Linehan has been a selector on the Cork Under-21 team for the last number of years, and assisted with Cork winning the All Ireland in this grade in 2007. Colm O Connell, current Killavullen Player has represented Cork in this grade in 2006.
- Located in the grounds of Killavullen church is a very impressive memorial to Tim Nagle, from the parish, who won All Ireland medals with Cork in 1915 and also in 1919, who died in 1925. Tim would be an uncle of Sean Nagle, chairman of the development committee, and a very active participant in Killavullen GAA.
- Caleb Crone played for the St, Marys Club in Dublin and won an All Ireland medal with Dublin in 1941 & went on to win another with Cork in 1945. Caleb grew up in Killavullen, where his Father was Station Master for a while.
- Alan O'Driscoll and Gene Kelleher from the club won All Ireland medals with the Cork Junior Team in 2001, both of them contributing a point in the dying moments, from where Cork won by 2 points, when Michael Linehan was a selector(2001). This was due recognition for our outstanding win in the Cork County Junior Football Championship, the previous December.
- Congratulations to Jamie O Sullivan from the club who was part of the Cork County U-14 team, which recently won the 16th staging of the Jim Power under 14 Football tournament. 12 teams from Munster and Leinster took part, and Jamie contributed two points over the course of the tournament, with the final been played in Dungarvan, between Cork County and Limerick, with Cork winning out on a final margin of 1-10 to 0-08. Jamie is an excellent two footed player, with a very mature attitude, and a great prospect for the future.
- Another person who excelled during 2007 and congratulations to Sean O'Regan who played on the Avondhu U16 football team which won the new Frank Halbert Cup beating Carberry in the final. He was also on the Cork Co U16 football team which won the Munster title.
- A hearty "well done" to our near neighbours, the lady footballers from Mourne Abbey, who recently won the All Ireland Intermediate Football Championship, with Rebecca Larkin, Patricia Murphy, Catherine Coakley and Niamh O'Regan from Killavullen playing an integral part.
- Brid O'Sullivan was on the Cork U14 team and Niamh O'Regan was part of the Cork U16 All Ireland winning team. Brid, Niamh & Sinead Coakley were also on the All Ireland Intermediate winning panel.
